Ok, so I logged on to Dazed Digital earlier and find one of the best examples of web marketing I've seen yet, a small flash ad for nikeid.com on the right where you enter your name and a descriptor into the boxes, press go and it randomly designs you a pair of shoes you can buy. I like that there is no sound or excessive loudness to the advert, it works well in context and fits the sites colour scheme.

Anyway, without further ado, my new shoes, as designed by the wee advert on the website. (They would be my new shoes, had I £120 to spare)

  Just enter your name in one box and a descriptor then press "create" and then "save" hey presto, new shoeses!

howdy, I had a go of this and well being the person I am (bloody picky over web sites especially with flash) I found it a bit of fun but , no I won't go further into it lol.

I just dont like flash used badly..pmsl

    nope I leave that to Usability testers.
    
    I just dont see the point in flash overuse.

      Ahh, we're probably not too far apart on that then, I generally use XHTML/CSS for everything, loads quicker, displays across devices, etc, but Flash is useful for somethings.

        oh I dont know I see usability testing as a much underated creative skill.
        
        change one line in requirements at that stage can lead to time and money costs being far smaller at a later stage.
        
        not enough testing in the early stages (i.e inception) is performed.

        I get the need for it, it was the only constant on our degree, three years of HCI modules, but I think that some usability testers overstep their brief, they'd sacrifice every degree of aesthetics for better usability. But I think the two should be balanced, or all our websites would look like Jakob Nielsen's.

        to be honest, university life is far detached from the real world. a good tester will realise that they can not dictate nor give 100% coverage, both are impossible.

        I'm kind of middle ground, I try to use W3C as a guide for accessibility and everything passes that, but sometimes the EU funding people withhold funding if they don't approve of things, so it's a bit of a bind. I figure outside of that situation it must be easier to agree on things.
